Presented is a fantastic set of 10 Georgian English sterling silver handle knives, dating to the late 1700s or very early 1800s. The handles are done in a stately paneled design with a slight taper as the handle nears the blade. The blades are carbon steel, and as such will darken with age and use, and should be hand cleaned promptly after use, never put through the dishwasher. This set is in good overall condition. One knife has a minor split on the handle. Some of the blades have some minor wear/pitting, please view the photos carefully.
Each knife is stamped with a maker's mark of IL, likely for John Lambe. Some of the marks have more wear than others, but all the knives have at least the remnants of the IL.
Each knife measures about 10 1/4 inches long, except the slightly longer one which is about 10 3/8 inches long.
The total weight for the set is 927 grams, or 32.7 regular ounces. Not all of this weight is sterling silver, considering the weighting of the handles and the carbon steel blades. -jm
