Presented is a great Japanese porcelain covered jar or urn. Likely made in the late 1800s, this piece has lovely bright colors. There is a great scene positioned on the front of a samurai-like figure. The opposite side displays a woman sitting and another woman carrying water on a long post. The top boarder and lid are filled with scrolls and a bird on either side.
There are Japanese marks on the underside of the jar and on the lip of the lid. We received, along with the piece, a note explaining what the different markings are likely to mean.
Many elements in the paintings have been gilded. In some places, the gold has faded, especially on the porcelain finial at the top. There are no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
