Presented is a fantastic, tall Italian sterling silver compote. The piece is beautifully done in three separate pieces: the bowl, the shaft and the base. The bowl has a gorgeous applied cast oak leaf and acorn garland border. The shaft is decorated at the top with medieval or renaissance style architectural elements with lions' heads in very high relief. The base is beautifully decorated with an acanthus leaf and shell pattern. The rim of the base has a large milled edge and Greek key border. The bowl of the compote is held in place with a screw and bolt. The top of the bolt is a large, flat, hand-engraved medallion decorated with a matching acanthus leaf and shell pattern. The piece does completely disassemble. Please see the photos. Reassembly is extremely easy! This was made between 1944-1968 in Italy.

The piece is hallmarked on the base with 925 in an oval cartouche, for Sterling silver purity and the Italian maker's mark of an elongated hexagonal punch without the Roman fasces, which was used between 1944-1968.

The compote measures 11 1/8 inches tall and 10 3/4 inches in diameter at the top.

The weight is 1344.1 grams or 47.41 ounces.
