Presented is a lovely Shiebler sterling silver pierced berry serving ladle. This piece is made in the elegant Napoleon pattern, which began production in 1894. As this piece is stamped 'patent applied for' it dates to the first year of production or even a little earlier. The handle has a design of a holly wreath and ribbon, done in shades of green and white enamel. The entirety of the silver ladle has a rich gold wash. The bowl of the ladle is done in a scalloped shell form, pierced for use serving berries in syrup, etc. The handle has a monogram of D, inside the wreath.
This piece is in excellent condition. The enamel is in great shape, with no chips and no losses. The gold wash is likewise in great shape, all intact. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The underside of the piece is stamped 'sterling' and with the maker's mark for Shiebler, as well as 'patent applied for' and the retailer, J. E. Caldwell & Co.
The server is about 6 5/8 inches long.
This piece weighs 53 grams.
