Presented is an excellent set of 6 antique English sterling silver teaspoons or coffee spoons. The spoons are made in a lovely twist handle pattern, with a feathered design to the bowls. Of this set of six, four are older Georgian spoons, with the feathered decoration likely a later Victorian addition, while the remaining two are Victorian, dated 1888 by Francis Higgins III. All the spoons match perfectly, however.
These spoons are all hallmarked with the English lion passant for sterling silver. Four of the spoons have only the lion passant, on the back of the terminal of the handle, while the remaining two have a full set of English hallmarks: the lion passant, the leopard's head for the city of London, the date letter N for 1888 the duty stamp of Queen Victoria's profile, and the maker's mark for Francis Higgins III.
This set is in great overall condition. One spoon has some dings to the bowl, but the design is still quite crisp. No splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
Each spoon is about 5 inches long.
The total weight for the set is 84 grams or 2.96 ounces. -jm
