Presented is a fabulous set of six antique Chinese export porcelain soup bowls dating to around the 1790s. The bowls have a wide but fairly generous center 'well' and wide gently sloping rims, what is sometimes referred to as a soup plate. The center of each has a lovely floral bouquet in shades of pink, purple, green, and red, with further little floral sprigs scattered to the four cardinal points. The rims are likewise decorated with charming floral garlands interwoven with lavender purple ribbons. All the decoration is hand painted and very skillfully done.
This set is in good overall condition, particularly for the age and material. One bowl, as shown in the seventh photograph, has a hairline crack extending inward from the edge. All the bowls have some fretting/small nicks to the rim, which is not uncommon for this thin, almost sharp style of edge. No other cracks, no repairs or restorations.
Each bowl measures about 9 inches in diameter. -jm
