Superb 1912 Dutch 835 Silver Double Handle Pedestal Bowl Chased Windmill Scenes
Regular price
$313.00
Presented is a beautiful antique Dutch 835 silver double handle bowl or porringer. This piece is dated 1912 and is fully hallmarked, although we cannot identify the maker. The bowl is wonderfully hand chased around the sides with classical Dutch genre scenes complete with windmills, surrounded by intricate foliate scrollwork and done against a textured background. The center of the interior likewise has a picturesque city scene with a windmill. The handles are cast and applied, featuring a regal woman with plumed headdress flanked by cherubs and openwork decoration. Really a superb quality piece.
This piece is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is stamped with Dutch hallmarks: The duty stamp of Minerva's head with the letter F for the city of Leeuwarden (on the handle), the lion passant above the Roman numeral II for 835 purity silver and a maker's mark (on the basin underside, above the foot), and a date letter C on the waist above the foot, C for 1912.
The bowl measures about 6 1/2 inches from handle to handle or about 4 inches in diameter at the rim, and stands about 2 inches tall.
This piece weighs 111 grams or 3.9 regular ounces. -jm
