Presented is a stunning Victorian 14 karat gold and diamond bar pin or brooch. This is an American piece, dating to around the 1870s. The pin is done in the Etruscan Revival style of the time period, featuring fine granulation and applied wirework designs against a matte finish. The center of the pin has an old mine cut diamond suspended in a little window, giving the piece attractive life and movement when worn. The diamond is at least a quarter of a carat in size, up to 30 points, a vibrant and dazzling stone of I-1 clarity and I/J color. The pin has a lever style safety clasp.
The pin is in great overall condition. The applied wirework and granulation is all intact. The diamond has a minor chip, which is hard to notice. The clasp has been replaced.
This piece has no stamps or hallmarks, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee that the pin itself is 14 karat gold, while the shaft of the pin is 10 karat gold.
The pin is about 2 5/8 inches long.
The pin weighs 8.4 grams.
