Stunning Victorian 18k Gold & ~.70ct Diamond Etruscan Revival Locket Pendant
Presented is a stunning American Victorian 18 karat gold and diamond locket
pendant. This piece is done very much in the Etruscan Revival style, with fine
applied gold beading and wirework. In the center of the locket is a dazzling old
mine cut diamond, bead set in an 8 pointed rayed star design. The diameter of
the diamond suggests a carat weight of about 70 points, but considering the high
table of the older cut, the weight could easily be 75 points (three quarters of
a carat). The diamond is SI-2 or I-1 clarity, and H color, appearing quite clean
though there is an inclusion in the center. The locket would originally have
been strung on a fine silk or grosgrain ribbon, and could easily be worn this
way again, or a jeweler could replace the loops on the sides with a bail for use
with a regular chain.
The locket is in great condition. The hinge is in great shape and the locket
snaps shut nicely. Both bezels are intact. The diamond is securely set. There
are no breaks and no repairs.
The locket is not stamped or hallmarked, but but we have tested it with
nitric acid and guarantee it to be 18 karat gold.
The locket measures about 1 3/4 by 1 1/2 inches.
The locket weighs 22.5 grams.
