Presented is a lovely Victorian 14 karat gold, garnet and seed pearl pin or brooch. This piece dates to around 1850-1880 and is likely American or Bohemian. The pin is done in the form of a flower inside a stylized circular leaf and stem. The flower is set with rich red garnets, with a central stripe of real, natural seed pearls. The back of the pin has an old C style clasp. Next to the clasp is a little loop, likely where a safety chain was at one time attached or where a bail could be added.
The pin is in great overall condition. The garnets and seed pearls are all intact. The clasp looks like it has been reinforced with a strip of gold under the 'C' portion, with a solder repair or reinforcement by the hinge. The solder extends to the front of the pin on the stem portion, but the lead solder has been camouflaged with gold paint. Otherwise there are no repairs.
The pin is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 14 karat gold.
The pin measures about 1 5/8 inches by 1 1/8 inches.
