Stunning c1919 Tiffany Co Sterling Silver Oval Centerpiece Bowl w Flower Frog
Regular price
$4,740.00
Presented is an excellent antique Tiffany & Co sterling silver centerpiece bowl, with flower frog. This piece dates to circa 1919. The bowl is oval in form, with a pedestal foot and pierced removable insert for a floral arrangement, though of course you can use it without this as a fruit bowl or whatever other type of display you prefer. The bowl is beautifully decorated with an interesting interwoven design around the exterior, interspersed with square-framed foliate designs. The lower portion of the body has panels with vertical fluted decoration between, and matching sections of fluting on the foot beneath. The front center panel has a monogram in a very French scrolled style, which I believe is HH. Considering the design of the bowl, it can easily be displayed with the monogram on the back, leaving the front blank. The bowl is extraordinarily well made, as you'd expect from the Tiffany name, and is a heavy weight for its size. The flower frog is completely original and so marked, and is made from finely gilt brass.
This piece is in excellent condition. The gilding of the flower frog is in great shape. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is stamped with the Tiffany & Co maker's mark, sterling, and the initial 'm' for the director of the company between 1907-1947, John C. Moore II. The design number dates this piece to circa 1919. The flower frog insert is marked with all the same marks (including the product and design numbers) as well as 'Brass Gilt.'
This piece measures about 13 x 8 3/4 x 4 inches, LxWxH.
The total weight for this piece, including the brass flower frog, is 2093 grams. The weight of the sterling silver bowl alone is 1825 grams or 64.4 regular ounces.
