Stunning c1880s French White and Black Marble Bronze Lamp Eagles Floral Garlands
Regular price
$2,581.00
Presented is an exceptional quality antique French marble and bronze table or boudoir lamp. This lamp could date anywhere from the 1870s to the 1910s; it was likely to have been an urn originally, converted and corded for use as an electric lamp, but given the time range it may have been made as a lamp from the start. The body of the lamp is done in gorgeous white marble with natural black veining, on a very ornate bronze base and with finely cast bronze mounts in the form of two eagles supporting floral festoons around the neck of the lamp. The lamp is topped by two sockets with beaded pull cords, on a central rod with matching marble finial. The bronze mounts are all exceptionally detailed and well cast, executed with all the quality and craftsmanship expected of French bronze work.
This lamp is in excellent overall condition. The marble body is in great shape, with no chips or damages. The bronze mounts and base are all in great shape and intact with the exception of a single screw missing from the center of one of the garlands; this garland lifts up, but is still well attached to the mouths of the eagles on either side. Neither the eagles nor the garlands should be used to lift the lamp, as it is very heavy and the decorative metal is not intended to support the weight. The patina of the bronze is consistent and in great condition, just a bit dusty. We did not plug in or test the cord of the lamp, as it is quite old, but this is a very easy task for anyone who does even minor electrical work. PLEASE NOTE! We will be shipping this lamp with the central rod disassembled from the body, to reduce the height and save on shipping costs. Re-assembly is just a matter of screwing the rod and finial back into place, as you would if you were putting a shade on the lamp.
This lamp stands about 32 inches tall to the very top of the finial, and measures about 8 1/2 inches across the widest point.
Be advised, this is a heavy work of marble and bronze, weighing approximately 31 pounds, or 14.06 kilograms. -jm
