Presented is a beautiful antique 18 karat gold, marcasite and opal ring. This ring dates to the late 1800s and is likely of Austrian make. The ring is set with a round opal, surrounded by elegant openwork decoration accented with sparkling marcasites. The head of the ring is done in silver, while the band and the bezel surrounding the opal are done in gold, for a nice two tone effect.
The ring is in great overall condition. The marcasites are all intact, though they have some minor wear. There are no breaks and no repairs. The ring is stamped on the exterior of the band with a partially worn hallmark that is likely Austrian, but we have also tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 18 karat gold, while the white metal top is silver.
