Presented is a fantastic set of 6 sterling silver dinner forks. These knives are made in the stylish Contempora pattern, which began production by Dominick & Haff and Reed & Barton in 1930. This pattern was designed by Finnish-born architect Eliel Saarinen in 1927, as part of a display for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Saarinen was one of nine architects invited by the Met to design thirteen room settings for The Architect and the Industrial Arts , its eleventh exhibition of contemporary American design. The organizers requested that all furnishings and accessories for a room be included, and they stipulated that no object to be displayed could already be in production. For the exhibit, Eliel Saarinen created a dining room outfitted with four new patterns of flatware that were displayed on the dining room table, including 'Contempora,' officially offered to and designed for Dominick & Haff and Reed & Barton in 1929. The pattern reflects this lofty architectural origin in its classically Art Deco design, reminiscent of the Chrysler building in New York.

This set is in great condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

Three of the forks are stamped with the Dominick & Haff maker's mark as well as sterling. The remaining three of the forks are stamped with the Reed & Barton maker's mark as well as sterling.

Each fork is about 7 7/8 inches long.

The total weight for the set is 375 grams or 13.2 regular ounces. -jm
