Set 4 Antique 1810 English Georgian Sterling Silver Salt Cellars w/ Glass Liners
Regular price
$1,053.00
Presented is an antique set of 4 English Georgian sterling silver salt cellars with original glass liners, made in London in 1810. This set is done in a classic Georgian form, with each dish raised on 4 ball feet and a decorative tongue and dart border around rim. Each piece in this set has a monogram of the initials GEK in flowing script. The interiors have the remnants of a gold wash, but the silver is protected from pitting and corrosion by the contents with clear glass liners as well.
Each cellar is marked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for London, a duty mark for King George III, and a date letter P for the year 1810. There is also a maker's mark to the left of the hallmarks, but it is partially obscured and hard to make out.
This set is in great overall condition. The glass liners are clean and have no chips or cracks. The silver has some minor dings here and there, but no splits, no serious dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The rims, above the hallmarks, have a small line or seam, this is original to the making of the salts and not a split or damage.
Each salt cellar measures 4 inches by 3 inches and is 2 inches tall.
Total weight of the sterling portions, without the glass liners, is 387 grams or 13.6 ounces.
