Presented is a fantastic set of 14 Philippe Deshoulieres Limoges scenic plates. This is a relatively modern set of plates, though I believe it is 'after' an older design by Jules Vieillard & Cie. The plates depict various Chateaux de Bordeaux: Chateau Petrus, Chateau d'Yquem, Chateau Margaux, and Chateau Lafite Rothschild. These chateau scenes are very charming and idyllic, some with more wine-growing landscape pictured or little figures in the foreground. The borders of the plates are lavishly and colorfully decorated with a band of grape themed decoration, made up of scrolling vines, grape leaves in yellow, green, and red, and hanging clusters of grapes, interspersed with little grape-bedecked putti supporting medallions with wine region names.
This set of plates is in excellent condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
These plates are signed on the underside for Philippe Deshoulieres, Limoges, France, and a mark after J. Vieillard & Cie.
