Rare Whiting Sterling Silver Radiant Pat. Asparagus Serving Tongs
Regular price
$152.00
Presented is a lovely pair of antique Whiting sterling silver asparagus serving tongs. These tongs are made in the Radiant pattern, which began production in 1895. This is a beautiful pattern with classical floral and foliate scrollwork decoration along the handles, including a prominent 'radiant' shell-like design surrounding a cartouche. The ends of this pair of tongs have openwork decoration, and the arms are made in an interesting curved shape. Though these tongs were made as a serving piece for spears of asparagus, the size is quite useable for things like sugar cubes, petit fours, croutons, etc.
This piece is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no dents,no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The pattern is nice and crisp.
The tongs are stamped on the interior of one arm with the Whiting maker's mark as well as sterling and the patent date of the pattern, 1895.
The tongs weigh 26 grams and measure about 4 1/4 inches long. -jm
