Presented is an excellent quality pair of antique Davenport stone china shell shaped bowls or dishes, dating to circa 1815-1820. These dishes are made in the highly sought after Flying Bird pattern, which is a vibrant and colorful Chinoiserie pattern depicting a long tailed bird in flight surrounded by stunning flowers and foliage. The palette is a very eye-catching array of blues, greens, orange, purple and pink shades, with fine gold gilt detailing. This pattern would later be produced by Mason's Ironstone as well as other fine English makers. These particular little dishes are perhaps shrimp bowls or otherwise made for seafood, considering the shell shape and the fish scale and tail design of the handles, but of course you can use them however you like. We have many additional pieces in this pattern from the same estate including some particularly rare examples, which you can find by searching “Flying Bird” in our store.

These dishes are in excellent condition, particularly considering age. There are some minor surface abrasions and small spots of wear/loss to the paint, but nothing of any significance. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.

Each dish is stamped on the reverse with the oldest used Davenport mark, used circa 1805-1820.

Each dish measures about 6 by 5 1/8 by 1 7/8 inches, LxWxH. -jm
