Presented is a nice pair of English Regency period papier mache wine bottle coasters, dating to circa 1810-1825. The coasters have a black lacquer finish beautifully hand decorated with nicely detailed floral designs around the side, in gold and silver foil I believe. The undersides have a red fabric covering, to protect surfaces.
Of the two coasters, one is in very good condition, the one on top in the second photo. This coaster has some wear to the lacquer of the interior and some minor wear to the decoration of the exterior, but is overall good. The other coaster has some chips to the rim and more noticeable wear to the lacquer interior, you can see this coaster close up in the third photo. Both coasters have their original red cloth undersides, but they sit a little unevenly. They are both still usable.
Each coaster measures about 5 1/4 inches in diameter and stands about 1 3/4 inches tall. -jm
