Presented is a fine American sterling silver serving piece by JB & SM Knowles. This server is made in the elegant Angelo pattern, which began production in 1910. This pattern features classical foliate scroll decoration along the handle and around the upper portion of the body. The body of the server is beautifully pierced, with five spreading tines that are connected as part of the openwork design; it's really more of a slotted spoon than a serving fork, but the wide tines make it a very versatile serving piece. The front of the handle is finely engraved with a monogrammed MKG in flowing, interwoven script.
The stem is stamped with the maker's mark for JB & SM Knowles, as well as sterling and patent. The Knowles firm was purchased by Mauser Mfg Co in 1903, which became part of Mt Vernon Co Silversmiths in circa 1913, so the Angelo pattern silver by those makers is still the same pattern.
This server is in excellent condition. The details of the pattern and the engraving of the body are nice and crisp. No splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The server is about 8 1/8 inches long.
This piece weighs 74 grams or 2.6 ounces. -jm
