Presented is an impressive Venetian cobalt blue glass chalice after the famous Barovier wedding cup, almost certainly by Murano, dating to circa 1900-1930. The chalice is made in the classic coppa nuziale form, with wide bowl and tapered foot, done in rich cobalt blue glass with white beadwork and gold gilt detailing. The scene around the side, however, is not the scene on the Barovier cup, but a classical Olympian scene with various godly figures, all very detailed and well painted by hand. The quality of the painting is uncommonly good, and I cannot find another iteration of this scene on a Barovier cup, making this quite a rare piece.
This piece is in excellent condition. The painted decoration, raised white enamel, and gilding are in great shape, with only four of the white raised dots around the rim being imperfect/partially gone. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
The chalice stands about 7 1/2 inches tall and measures about 8 inches in diameter at the rim, or about 4 1/4 inches in diameter at the foot. -jm
