Presented is a fine silver coffee or tea pot most likely made in Rio de Janeiro Brazil near the start of the 1800's, but possibly 18th century! This piece displays very high quality craftsmanship on par with any of the fine work being produced at that time in Europe. The clean, lighthouse-shaped body is affixed with a low-set, straight angled spout, a wooden side handle and a tight-fitting, hinged lid. A very high quality and well made piece, it is constructed of high grade, heavy gauge silver. There is a very French-looking flowery "DC" or "CD" monogram, diminutive in size, on one side.

This piece is in good overall condition. The base of the spout looks like it has a solder repair from long ago. Some abrasive polishing has been done in the past to the interior, but the pot is entirely usable. There are no splits, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no solder repairs.

This piece is hallmarked on the outside of the base with what appears to be "10", t he mark of fineness of most Brazilian silver of this period, indicating 10 dinheiros: 10/12 or .833 purity silver. The other mark is possibly the silversmith's initials and appear to be "IV".

This piece is approximately 9 3/4 inches tall. The base diameter is 4 1/4 inches. The handle is about 5 1/4 inches long, giving the pot a maximum width of 9 inches.

Capacity is over one liter at 36 ounces or 4 1/2 cups.

This piece weighs 857 grams or 30.2 regular ounces (1 lb 14.2 oz). tm
