Regular price
$163.00
Presented is a rare antique Mason's ironstone china serving plate, dating to around the 1900s-1930s. This piece is made in the highly sought after Flying Bird pattern, which is a vibrant and colorful Chinoiserie pattern depicting a long tailed bird in flight surrounded by stunning flowers and foliage. The palette is a very eye-catching array of blues, greens, orange, purple and pink shades, with fine gold gilt detailing. This pattern was first produced by Davenport circa 1815, but would go on to be made by Mason's as well as other fine English makers. We have many additional pieces in this pattern from the same estate including some particularly rare examples, which you can find by searching “Flying Bird” in our store. This particular piece is very distinctive, featuring a central pillar or spindle topped with a bowl of fruit design. Could be a little display for colorful fruit, pastries, or whatever else you like.
This piece is in great overall condition. There is some cracklature to the glaze, but the piece rings nicely when tapped. There is a small glaze skip to the underside, but this is not a damage and is inconsequential. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
The underside is stamped with the Mason's Patent Ironstone China mark.
The serving dish measures about 12 inches in diameter and about 4 7/8 inches to the top of the central piece. -jm
