Presented is a fantastic antique American sterling silver tomato or cucumber slice server, by Fessenden. This piece is made in the beautiful Alice pattern, patented in 1895. The handle features bold beadwork decoration with roses and scrolls, while the business end of the server has a scalloped edge and a gold wash. The center has a pierced openwork fan design, surrounded by a finely hand chased wreath that, if you look closely, is made up of very detailed tomato and cucumber vines, complete with their leaves, little curlicues, and the tomatoes and cucumbers themselves. The terminal of the handle has a monogram of S in Gothic lettering. Quite a rare and charming little piece!
This piece is in excellent condition. The details of the pattern and engraved decoration are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is stamped sterling 925-1000 as well as the patent date of August 20th, 1895.
The server measures about 7 3/8 inches long.
