Rare c1820 Masons Ironstone China Flying Bird Chamber Pot w Snake Handle
Regular price
$250.00
Presented is a rare antique Mason's Ironstone china chamber pot, dating to circa 1815-1835. This piece is made in the highly sought after Flying Bird pattern, which is a vibrant and colorful Chinoiserie pattern depicting a long tailed bird in flight surrounded by stunning flowers and foliage. The palette is a very eye-catching array of blues, greens, orange, and pink shades, with fine gold gilt detailing. This pattern was originally made by Davenport starting circa 1815, but would also be made by Mason's Ironstone and other high end English companies as well. The pot is made in a striking paneled form, with a particularly nice handle on one side, done in the form of a cobalt blue and gold snake.
Though this piece was made as a chamber pot, it would make an excellent planter or vase for a sizable floral arrangement, today. We have many additional pieces in this pattern from the same estate including some particularly rare examples, which you can find by searching “Flying Bird” in our store.
This piece is in excellent condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
The pot is stamped on the underside with the Mason's Patent Ironstone China mark.
The pot measures about 8 7/8 inches in diameter or about 10 1/2 inches across including the handle, and stands about 5 1/2 inches tall. -jm
