Presented is a wonderful English pearlware porcelain teapot, dating to circa 1800-1810. The pot is made in a classical form, emulating older English silver pots, with fluted decoration in the body and a toothed tongue-and-dart type of design to the upper rim. The sides are beautifully painted with pink and red flowers and green leaves, and panels of puce latticework around the upper body and lid. The lid has a fabulous swan form finial in a rich shade of red. This piece came to us with a letter from the lead interpreter at the Shelburne Museum of Natick, MA responding to the pot's owner's inquiry regarding two similar pearlware pots with swan finials on display, giving us the date range and stating the swan finials were a popular pattern of the time. This pot has a capacity of about 5 cups, or 40 fluid ounces/1.18 liters.

This piece is in great overall condition, particularly for its age. Four of the 'teeth' around the upper rim have chips. The lid has a couple of small chips, and a couple of tiny flakes to the glaze. There is some discoloration to the glaze, noticeably around the rim and to the lid, but this is not a restoration or repaint. Some wear to the painted decoration, including on the finial. No breaks and no repairs.

The pot stands about 6 1/4 inches tall and measures about 10 1/4 inches from handle to spout. -jm
