Presented is a unique English paper mache snuffbox, dating to around the 1820s-1830s. The lid of the box features an interesting scene, of a bearded woman at her vanity, applying likely kohl or some other cosmetic. The scene is very detailed and well done, and the subject matter is certainly not something you'll find again very easily. All the other sides of the box, as well as the interior, are lacquered a rich deep black. A well made, striking, and very curious object.
The box is in great overall condition, particularly considering the age and material. There are a few minor spots of wear to the lacquer, but nothing particularly noticeable. Please view the photos carefully and let them guide your judgment. The lid closes nicely. The box measures about 2 1/2 by 1 1/4 by 7/8 of an inch, LxWxH.-jm
