Presented is a rare Irish sterling silver marrow scoop spoon. This piece dates to around 1730-1750. The scoop is double ended, with a regular spoon end and a narrow scoop end for scooping marrow out of bones. The spoon end and the scoop end face in the same direction. There is a monogram of either F or P in elegant script, on the narrow end of the scoop. This is a sturdy, well made piece of Irish silver, and would make an exceptional addition to any silver collection.

This piece is in good overall condition. There is an old repair to the narrow scoop end, just below where it turns into the handle. The line of this repair can be seen in the first and second photo. The area of the repair could probably be polished or cleaned up to be less noticeable, and it isn't as noticeable in person as it is in the photos. There are no dents, no monogram removals, and no other repairs.

The spoon is hallmarked on the stem with the maker's mark for Joseph Teafe and the harp crowned for the city of Dublin. Above the Dublin mark the Hibernia mark for sterling silver can be seen faintly, though it is mostly worn away. We have included a photo with an arrow pointing out the Hibernia mark.

The marrow spoon is about 7 1/2 inches long.

The marrow spoon weighs 40.8 grams or 1.4 regular ounces.
