Rare Antique 1800s Chinese? Japanese? Bronze Luohan Sage Statue Figurine 10.25"
Regular price
$1,242.00
Presented is an interesting antique Asian bronze statue of a luohan or sage, dating to around the 1840s-1890s, possibly earlier. We aren't certain but believe this to be Chinese rather than Japanese. The figure is nicely detailed and well cast, showing a male figure with beard, bared feet and chest, and sweeping, flowing robes. The figure's hollow cheeks and detailed, emaciated sternum speak to a life of ascetic dedication. The bronze has a dark, sombre patina and overall the statue has a very fine look.
This piece is in excellent condition. There are no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. Some shelf wear to the patina of the underside, as you'd expect, but otherwise the patina is in great shape.
This statue stands about 10 1/4 inches tall and weighs about 4.9 pounds, or 2.2 kilograms. -jm
