Rare 1780s American Coin Silver Hand Engraved Sugar Tongs / Nips

Presented is a wonderful pair of American coin silver sugar tongs or sugar nips. These tongs date to around the 1780s, possibly as early as the 1770s. The tongs are done in a simple, traditional form, with hand engraved designs. On the back end of the tongs is an oval cartouche with a monogram of SMG in flowing script.

The tongs are in great condition. The details of engraved designs are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

The tongs are not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested them with nitric acid and guarantee them to be coin (900) purity silver.

The tongs are about 5 5/8 inches long.

The tongs weighs 37 grams or 1.3 regular ounces.
