Paula Crevoshay 18k Gold Rubellite Pink Tourmaline Rutilated Quartz Earrings

Regular price $4,200.00 $0.00 Unit price per

Presented is a gorgeous pair of 18 karat gold, rubellite tourmaline and rutilated quartz earrings by jewelry designer Paula Crevoshay. Each earring is set with an oval cabochon of rubellite tourmaline measuring about 9.75 x 7.7 millimeters, in a wonderful rich and saturated shade of dark pink, each about 3.33 ct in weight, for a total carat weight of about 6.66ct. Beneath the tourmalines, each earring is set with a triangular piece of rutilated quartz, an interesting variety of clear quartz crystal with interior inclusions of bright gold color material that looks almost like fine wire. These are unique, hand chosen stones, as you'd expect from a designer with Paula Crevoshay's stated commitment to integrity and artistic vision. These earrings are made in an antiquities inspired style, with granulated beadwork decorative flourishes at the top, bottom, and between the two stones, reminiscent of Etruscan Revival pieces. The earrings have butterfly style backs with posts for wear with pierced ears.

Paula Crevoshay, the designer of these earrings, is known for her use of colorful and exotic gemstones and for drawing inspiration from the natural world as well as cultures from all across the globe. Her work is displayed in (and, in some instances, even commissioned by) renowned institutions and museums like the Smithsonian, Carnegie Museum, the Gemological Institute of America in New York, the Natural History Museum of LA, and many more. Known as the 'Queen of Color,' she is not just an artist but an authority, sought after for her lectures on art history, design, and the science of gemstones, all of which knowledge she brings to bear in her stunning work. We are pleased and proud to be able to offer this one of a kind piece of hand crafted jewelry art for sale, as well as many others which you can find by searching 'Paula Crevoshay' in our storefront.

These earrings were acquired from an estate along with several other fine pieces of Paula Crevoshay's work, many of which came to us with their original receipts from EF Watermelon in Old Lyme, Connecticut, the brainchild gallery of two of the founding members of the American Gem Trade Association, which both gave a platform to jewelry artists like Paula Crevoshay and others of similar renown and supplied them with unique and high end gemstones in their capacity as dealers in fine gems. EF Watermelon showcased and sold her work directly, making these earrings single-owner pieces of undisputed authenticity. This particular pair of earrings retailed from the gallery in 1996 for $6000, which in 2023 terms would be over $11000.

The earrings are in excellent condition. The stones are clean and well set. One earring has a replacement back in 14 karat gold, instead of the original signed Paula Crevoshay back.

Each earring is stamped and guaranteed 18k as well as the maker's mark for Paula Crevoshay.

Each earring measures about 1 5/8 inches long by about 3/4 of an inch wide.

The total weight for the pair is 15.6 grams.
