Presented is a gorgeous 18 karat gold and gemstone necklace, by jewelry designer Paula Crevoshay. The pendant of the necklace is set with an oval piece of chrysocolla in chalcedony, a marvelous blue-green stone with a druzy textured surface that glitters and sparkles with any movement, surrounded with four groups of three round cut rubies in bezel settings. The gold pendant is made in an antiquities-inspired style, with applied granulated decoration against an eye-catching textured finish, reminiscent of Etruscan Revival pieces but with uncharacteristically bold choices of gemstone. The “chain” portion of the necklace consists of nine strands of beautifully cut blue-purple iolite beads, which can be worn twisted torsade style or in a looser, more flowing style. The pendant itself is of quite a heavy weight and very well constructed, with an exceptional feeling of quality to it and a very intricate and versatile design. On the back are two box style clasps at either end of the pendant, where the tabs of the necklace insert, each with a little knob to catch the safety latches of the clasp tabs making the attachment points very secure. At the top of the pendant is a hinged bail with a safety latch as well, so this pendant can be worn without the iolite multistrand necklace, on a chain of your choosing or even as an enhancer to a strand of pearls or other gemstone beads. Across the lower portion is a pin shaft with rollover style safety clasp, so the pendant doubles as a brooch. Very versatile and unique!

Paula Crevoshay, the designer of this necklace, is known for her use of colorful and exotic gemstones and for drawing inspiration from the natural world as well as cultures from all across the globe. Her work is displayed in (and, in some instances, even commissioned by) renowned institutions and museums like the Smithsonian, Carnegie Museum, the Gemological Institute of America in New York, the Natural History Museum of LA, and many more. This pendant/pin and its accompanying necklace were acquired from an estate along with several other fine pieces of Paula Crevoshay's work, many of which came to us with their original receipts from EF Watermelon in Old Lyme, Connecticut. EF Watermelon was the jointly created gallery of two of the founding members of the American Gem Trade Association, which both gave a platform to jewelry artists like Paula Crevoshay and others of similar renown and supplied them with unique and high end gemstones in their capacity as dealers in fine gems. EF Watermelon showcased and sold her work directly, making this necklace a single-owner piece of undisputed authenticity.

The pendant/brooch itself is stamped and guaranteed 18kt, with the maker's mark for Paula Crevoshay right next to the 18kt mark. The clasp tabs and safety latches of the necklace are also 18 karat gold, and were undoubtedly sold by the same retailer with the pendant, as they fit and function with the pendant/brooch perfectly.
