Presented is an antique pair of American coin silver serving or place spoons made by Garret Forbes of New York during the 1st quarter of the 1800s. These early 19th century spoons are in a classical form and each one has an old, original monogram of the initials OW or perhaps CIW or CJW in a sinuous script on its handle. We are not 100% sure of what the monogram is, please look at the photos and decide for yourselves. The bowls have been polished to a high finish, undoubtedly after a few dents were removed, but the handles have never been polished.
The back of each spoon is marked G. Forbes. Both pieces are guaranteed to be 900 coin purity silver.
This pair is in great overall condition, especially for their age. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits and no repairs.
Each spoon measures 9 3/8 inches long and the combined weight of the pair is 118 grams or 4.2 ounces.
