Pair 1800s French Bronze Patinated Lead Napoleon Marie Louise Medals, Andrieu
Regular price
$640.00
Presented is a stately pair of antique French bronze patinated lead bas relief medallions, by Jean Bertrand Andrieu (1761-1822). One medallion features the bust of Napoleon in profile in classical Roman-inspired style, while the other depicts both Napoleon and either Marie Louise or Josephine, but likely Marie Louise. The medals are set in elegant gilt brass frames, with glass fronts and loops for hanging. The medal with Napoleon and Marie Louise is signed for Jean Bertrand Andrieu, “fecit.” The Napoleon medal is likewise signed Andrieu, “F” (fecit).
This pair of medals is in excellent overall condition. The medal featuring only Napoleon has some wear to the bronze on the edge, at about the 3-5o'clock position, but this is not very noticeable as it is to the edge only. The one featuring Napoleon and Marie Louise has a tiny chip to the glass at about the 12 o'clock position. The material on the back is in good shape, and has possibly been re-done. The glass is undoubtedly original. There are no other chips or damages.
Each medal measures about 6 1/8 inches in diameter. -jm
