Presented is a wonderful quality antique Durgin sterling silver centerpiece or low pedestal bowl, dating to circa 1900. The bowl is fabulously chased around the entirety with ornate repousse flowers, foliate scrolls, and latticework designs, all very intricate and well done. The rim is cast and applied, with a design of shells and acanthus leaves around the outer edge and a very textured foliate border around the interior, which matches the design around the lower body of the bowl. The interior has the remnants of a gold wash. A very eye-catching piece, that would look very impressive in use as a floral centerpiece, a fruit bowl, or however else you like.
The underside is stamped with the Durgin maker's mark as used circa 1895-1905 as well as sterling and a retail mark for Bigelow Kennard & Co.
This piece is in excellent condition. There are a few minor surface abrasions to the center interior, but these could easily be polished out, and wouldn't be seen with anything in the bowl like fruit or flowers. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The bowl measures about 9 3/4 inches in diameter and stands about 3 1/2 inches tall at the rim.
This bowl weighs 836 grams or 29.5 regular ounces. -jm
