Presented is a fantastic antique sterling silver centerpiece bowl. This bowl was made by Whiting and is dated 1906. The bowl is a very generous large size, with a wide and lavishly decorated rim. The rim is intricately hand chased with classical scrollwork and shell decoration, very much in the style of two of Whiting's flatware patterns, King Edward and Imperial Queen. Whether the bowl is used as a centerpiece with either of these patterns or something else entirely, it would be a very impressive and eye catching addition to a table setting, or however else you might display it.
This bowl is in great overall condition. There are a couple of tiny dings here and there, as you'd expect from a piece well over a hundred years old. The center of the bowl has had a monogram removal, which has thinned the silver in that spot somewhat. There are no splits, no significant dents, no monograms, and no repairs.
The bowl is stamped on the underside with the maker's mark for Whiting as well as sterling, a product number 1115, and a year mark for 1906. The bowl measures about 13 ¼ inches in diameter and stands about 4 inches tall at the highest point.
This piece weighs 1081 grams or 38.1 regular ounces. -jm
