Presented is a gorgeous pair of 18 karat gold, sapphire and moonstone earrings by jewelry designer Paula Crevoshay. Each earring is set with an oval cabochon of moonstone as a central focus, with three round moonstone cabochons and a pear cut sapphire above. The largest moonstone measures about 12 x 8 x 6 millimeters, or about 4.24 carats each, while each of the smaller three measures about 5-5.5 millimeters in diameter, or about 90 points each, for a total carat weight for the pair 13.86ct . The sapphires are each about 16 points in size, or about a third of a carat total for the pair. All the stones are real, mined from the ground stones, verified by our gemologist. The stones are exceptional quality, as you'd expect from a designer with Paula Crevoshay's stated commitment to integrity and artistic vision, beautifully cut and polished and exquisite in terms of color. These earrings are made in an antiquities inspired style, with applied granulated decoration against matte finish gold, reminiscent of Etruscan Revival pieces but with uncharacteristically bold choices of gem. The earrings have omega style backs with posts for wear with pierced ears, as well as a little loop at the bottom in the back so a dangle or drop could be attached.

Paula Crevoshay, the designer of these earrings, is known for her use of colorful and exotic gemstones and for drawing inspiration from the natural world as well as cultures from all across the globe. Her work is displayed in (and, in some instances, even commissioned by) renowned institutions and museums like the Smithsonian, Carnegie Museum, the Gemological Institute of America in New York, the Natural History Museum of LA, and many more. Known as the 'Queen of Color,' she is not just an artist but an authority, sought after for her lectures on art history, design, and the science of gemstones, all of which knowledge she brings to bear in her stunning work. We are pleased and proud to be able to offer this one of a kind piece of hand crafted jewelry art for sale, as well as many others which you can find by searching 'Paula Crevoshay' in our storefront.

These earrings were acquired from an estate along with several other fine pieces of Paula Crevoshay's work, many of which came to us with their original receipts from EF Watermelon in Old Lyme, Connecticut, the brainchild gallery of two of the founding members of the American Gem Trade Association, which both gave a platform to jewelry artists like Paula Crevoshay and others of similar renown and supplied them with unique and high end gemstones in their capacity as dealers in fine gems. EF Watermelon showcased and sold her work directly, making these earrings single-owner pieces of undisputed authenticity. These earrings retailed from the gallery in 1997 for $4950, which in 2023 terms would be over $9000.

The earrings are in pristine condition. The stones are all well set and intact, with no chips. The clipbacks function well and have a good strong spring mechanism. No breaks and no repairs.

Each earring is stamped and guaranteed 18k as well as the maker's mark for Paula Crevoshay.

Each earring measures about 1 ½ by ¾ of an inch.

The total weight for the pair is 25.4 grams.
