Presented is a fine quality sterling silver ladle made by Whiting Manufacturing Company. The ladle is done in the desirable old Louis XV pattern which was first produced in 1891. The handle is monogrammed with LBV in an elegant script. The ladle is a very unusual size, much too large for gravy or sauce, yet too small for soup. I believe this is an oyster ladle, but have been told it is a bouillon ladle. Please decide for yourselves. It's quite unusual whatever its function.
The ladle is marked on the reverse with the maker’s mark for Whiting, Pat. 1891 and Sterling.
The condition is excellent. The bowl has some surface wear commensurate with age and light use, but this is minor. There are no dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
The ladle is 8 7/8 inches long.
The weight is 73.3 grams or 2.6 ounces.
