Old 1904 Dutch/German Figural Sterling Pierced Straining Spoon

Regular price $230.40 $0.00 Unit price per
Presented is a great European sterling silver straining spoon made in the very early 1900s. This piece was made in continental Europe and imported into England in 1904. It was almost certainly made in Germany, but perhaps the Netherlands. The full bodied handle is in the form of a man holding a pair of buckets, and his body is three dimensionally rendered and decorated on both the front and reverse. The bowl is cast and engraved with scroll and fruit designs.

The bowl is marked with the English sun import mark, 925 for sterling purity and a date letter i for 1904. There are also some pseudo-hallmarks on the handle, including 935, indicating that the purity of this spoon is actually higher than sterling. The hallmarks, other than English ones, look like pseudo-Augsburg hallmarks.

This piece is in excellent condition. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits and no repairs.

The spoon measures 7 1/4 inches long and weighs 80.5 grams or 2.8 ounces.
