Presented is a lovely Reed & Barton sterling silver compote or footed serving dish. This compote is made in the popular Francis I pattern, which features rich designs of fruit and foliate scrollwork. On this piece, the motifs are beautifully chased on the lobes of the bowl, alternating between clusters of fruit and stylized acanthus. The decoration is quite crisp and well done, with a nice level of detail and texture.
The compote is stamped with the Reed & Barton maker's mark as well as Francis I, the number X568, and the date symbol of an apothecary's mortar, for 1954.
This piece is in excellent condition. The details of the design are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The compote measures about 8 inches in diameter and stands about 4 ½ inches tall.
This piece weighs 401 grams or 14.1 regular ounces. -jm
