Presented is an beautiful Gorham sterling silver 74 piece flatware set. This set is done in the elegant Melrose pattern, which began production in 1948. This is a lovely pattern featuring classical floral and foliate scroll motifs. This set provides service for 12, with 5-piece place settings, as well as a variety of additional utensils. The knives have stainless steel blades in the Modern style.
The set consists of:
- 12 knives--9 inches long.
- 12 forks--11 are 7 1/8 inches long (luncheon), one is 7 3/4 inches long (dinner).
- 12 salad dessert etc forks--6 5/8 inches long.
- 12 soup spoons 6 1/4 inches long.
- 10 teaspoons-- 5 7/8 inches long.
- 11 butter knives--6 1/4 inches long.
- 5 cocktail/seafood/hors d'oeuvres forks--5 5/8 inches long.
This set is in great condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
We are including with the set a felt-lined wooden flatware storage chest. The chest is in good shape and does an excellent job of protecting the silver from wear. The chest is a free gift and does not factor in to the price or condition statement of the set, we merely include it as a convenience for the buyer. If you do not want this storage chest, please let us know and we will not ship it.
Each non-knife piece is stamped with the Gorham maker's mark as well as sterling and the name of the pattern, Melrose. The knives are marked on the blades with Gorham, sterling handle, and stainless blade.
The total (weighable silver) weight for the set is 2266 grams or 79.9 regular ounces. This weight does not include the knives or butter knives which have non-silver blades, but these pieces do have silver handles.
