Presented is an antique sterling silver salt or pepper shaker made by Samuel Wood of London in 1767. This mid 18th century Georgian piece is done in a classic form and is raised on a pedestal base. The pierced lid is decoratively engraved with latticework panels. The lid is original and fits tightly to the body. This shaker has never been monogrammed.

The underside is fully hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver purity and a maker's mark for Samuel Wood, as well as the date letter M for 1767 and the leopard's head crowned for the city of London. The date letter M and the lion passant are repeated on the lip of the lid.

The shaker is in great condition for its age. There is a dent to the lid, which you can see in the 2nd photograph. There is also an old solder repair to the top of the lid, but it is only noticeable upon close inspection.

Height: 5 inches.

Weight: 87 grams.
