Presented is a very charming antique Gorham sterling silver sewing box with pin cushion lid, dating to circa 1900. The “frame” of the piece is sterling silver with lovely hand engraved decoration and the remnants of a gold wash. The lid is a red velvet covered dome shaped pin cushion, which removes to reveal and interior storage space for pins, thimbles, or whatever other sewing notions you like. The silver has a monogram of RK in elegant script.
This pin cushion/box is in great condition. The sterling silver portion has no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The insert is in good shape, likely original. The cushion portion has had its velvet re done, so the velvet is clean and free of rips or pin holes.
The sterling silver is stamped with the maker's mark for Gorham as well as a product number B276 and sterling.
This piece is about 3 inches tall (with the cushion) and measures about 5 7/8 inches in diameter.
The total weight for the piece is 266 grams or 9.4 regular ounces. The weight of just the sterling silver portion is 112 grams or 4 regular ounces. -jm
