Presented is a wonderful old Chinese export porcelain covered entree or vegetable serving dish, dating to the mid to late 1800s. The dish is in a classic Canton Blue Willow type pattern, featuring a detailed landscape scene in the center: a boat on a river with various buildings and trees in the background, a bridge in the foreground, and a prominent willow tree. The rim has a 'rain and cloud' border. The lid is likewise decorated with the river scene, surrounding a pinecone finial handle. The rim of the dish has a ruffled edge to it. The underside is unglazed.
This piece is in excellent overall condition, particularly considering age and material. The lid does not seat into the rim perfectly, but the shape conforms so well I have no doubt it is original. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
This dish measures about 9 x 7 1/2 inches, and stands about 2 inches at the rim, or 3 1/4 inches to the top of the finial of the lid. -jm
