Presented is a fantastic Gorham sterling silver small bowl or dish, dated 1899. The bowl has a highly decorated rim, beautifully hand chased with roses and other flowers, foliate scrollwork, and two C-scroll enclosed cartouches, one at either end. Around the interior upper side of the bowl is pierced openwork with a floral motif. The bowl stands on four onslow form feet with roses and almost a fleur de lis design where the feet join the body. The center of the bowl has a monogram of ALEL in flowing script.
This piece is stamped on the underside with the maker's mark for Gorham as well as sterling, a product number A293, and a year cipher in the shape of a sickle, for 1899.
This piece is in great overall condition. There are a couple of minor dings to the interior 'well' of the bowl, mostly corresponding to where one of the feet is attached. There are no splits, no other dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The bowl measures about 8 1/2 by 6 1/2 by 2 inches, LxWxH.
This piece weighs 182 grams or 6.4 regular ounces. -jm
