Presented is a fine quality antique English silverplate serving dome or cloche. This piece dates to circa 1870-1900. The dome is beautifully hand engraved around the exterior with an intricate band of decoration, nicely detailed and well done. The bottom rim has a bold gadroon design in a large, noticeable style, matching the handle and where the handle meets the dome. The dome has a quite useful loop on one end, so it can be hung on a wall for ease of storing. The handle is easy to unscrew from the lid, and will be shipped disassembled to save a little space.
This piece is in great overall condition. There are some minor abrasions and small dings here and there, but nothing significant in our opinion. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The inside, by the handle, is stamped with the maker's mark Benson.
The dome measures about 12 5/8 x 9 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches, LxWxH, exterior dimensions (including the handle). The interior dimensions are about 11 3/4 x 9 1/8 inches.
This dome weighs 2 pounds 2 ounces, or 1 kilogram. -jm
