Presented is a fine quality antique Chinese bronze figure of a standing pair of cranes, dating to the late 1800s. The cranes are nicely detailed and well modeled, shown as an adult and juvenile, the larger of the pair with a plant stalk in its beak. The cranes are standing on an attached four-legged base, with a Chinese Meander type design around the sides. Possibly intended as a calligraphy brush hanger, as that is a popular form, and there is a hole in the top of the thing the crane is holding, nearest the beak, where a hook could have originally been, but there is nothing there now.

This piece is in great overall condition. Some dust, particularly to the recesses of the decoration in the base, as we did not clean or polish it. There are no breaks and no repairs.

This piece stands about 9 inches tall and the base measures about 3 1/2 by 3 1/4 inches. -jm
