Presented is a fine set of 5 American coin silver coffee or teaspoons. These spoons date to the late 1700s or early 1800s and were possibly made by Joseph Clark. The spoons are done in a simple, classical style with pointed, downward-turned ends to the handles. Each spoon has an old style marriage monogram of I * F on the handle.
This set is in great overall condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
Each spoon is stamped on the back of the stem with J. Clark. We think this may be for Joseph Clark, a Portsmouth, New Hampshire silversmith active circa 1790-1811. The mark is not an exact match for the example of his mark shown, although it is very close, and we are not certain that this is the maker.
Each spoon is about 5 7/8 inches long.
The total weight for the set is 82.8 grams or 2.9 regular ounces. -jm
