Presented is a lovely antique platter by TC Brown-Westhead, Moore & Co, a high end Staffordshire maker. This piece dates to around the 1880s-1890s, with the pattern registered in 1881. The platter features exceptional quality hand gilt decoration, depicting various flowers and other plants in raised high relief gold, richly detailed and well done. The porcelain itself is a mellow white shade, very appealing, especially with the sumptuous gold. Please note, we have other sizes of serving platter as well as sets of plates in various sizes in this same pattern, which you can find by searching “Brown Westhead Moore” in our store.
This platter is in excellent condition. There is some minor wear to the gilt edge, visible in the photos, but the floral decoration is in great shape. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The platter is stamped with the maker's mark for T. C. Brown Westhead Moore & Co, Staffordshire England, with the retail mark of Abram French & Co of Boston, in red. Beneath that is an English registry stamp, with the Roman numeral IV at the top for ceramics, A for December at the 6 o'clock position, 10 at the 12 o'clock position for the day, and E for 1881, giving us the pattern's date of December 10th, 1881.
The platter measures about 18 3/4 by 15 1/8 inches, LxW. The useable surface area (interior of the rim) measures about 13 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. The height at the rim is about 1 1/2 inches. -jm
