Presented is an elegant sterling silver swing handle basket from the late 1800s to early 1900s. This basket is made in a wonderful lobed form with pierced openwork around the sides, consisting of a lattice or trellis design alternating with acanthus leaf decoration. The handle displays matching lattice decorations and has a large cartouche at the center which has never been monogrammed. The bowl stands on a low notched corner square foot. he handle can stand up straight or lay on either side.
The underside is marked sterling along with the maker's mark for Barbour Silver Co, a Connecticut silversmith that became a part of International Silver Co.
This piece is in excellent overall condition. There are no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, no dents, no splits, and no repairs. Let the photos be your guide.
Measurements: 11 3/4 inches long, 8 1/2 inches wide, and about 9 1/4 inches tall with handle upright.
